Keynote: Navigating the Path to High-Performance Healthcare
There is an unprecedented opportunity for healthcare providers to bring information to the center of care, through the adoption of electronic health records. Yet there are still many perceived barriers, including the challenge of change management and the need to show a return on the investment in information technology, from both a clinical and financial standpoint. With the federal governments new focus on encouraging utilization of the EMR in "meaningful" ways, developing a clear path to full adoption is more critical than ever. Dr. Savage will share his experience as a clinician and as a key driver of GEs clinical IT vision, discussing the critical need for knowledge-driven, evidence-based medical systems that support clinicians in providing the highest levels of care.

Legal Session: Privacy and Security: How HITECH is changing HIPAA
The HITECH Act significantly affects both HIPAA privacy and security rules. Though penalties, enforcement dates, and other factors vary widely and some have yet to be determined the new rules surrounding management of protected health information (PHI) should be a high priority for all healthcare organizations and their business partners. Despite much uncertainty, we know some of the most significant changes. This presentation, by Edward F. Shay and Steven J. Fox, partners and attorneys at Post & Schell, will explore these and other new impacts of the HITECH Act on HIPAA compliance.
